16.4.17 - Newton Abbot's season got underway on Saturday after a delayed start with the first fixture waterlooged, and it was great to saddle a winner with Moorlands Jack winning the Happy Birthday Eddie Rice Handicap Chase in good style.
Nick Scholfield was onboard Jack who was having his first outing since December and won by three quarters of a length from David Bass on Irish Thistle. A change of head gear and the fact that he's a fresh horse both went in his favour, and we hope he can pick up a similar race in due course.
Today we are at Exeter for the first of its three evening fixtures where Island Rendezvous, the outsider of three, runs in the opening 188Bet.co.uk Novices' Hurdle.
Popping Along heads to Ludlow for the Team Whatever Welcomes Sergio Cordoso To The World Handicap Hurdle with Matt Griffiths in the saddle. She's back on the same mark of her Aintree win a year ago and has a respectable chance.
09.04.17 - Zulu Oscar landed the two mile handicap hurdle under Matt Griffiths at Chepstow yesterday, on his first start since joining us six weeks ago.
Despite his weight burden of 12-5 he won very well and could make a quick reappearance on Tuesday at Exeter.
We think he might have been bleeding so we treated him for that, and purposely kept him away from other horses at the start, sending him down early, and it seems to have had the desired effect. He looks to have bounced back to something like his best of two years ago, and its always particularly pleasing when horses find their form again.
We have three entries at Exeter on Tuesday:
Zulu Oscar – City of Exeter Challenge Cup Handicap Hurdle
Gonnabegood and That’s Gonna Sting – Finlake Holiday Resort Handicap Hurdle
26.3.2017 - Anythingmayhappen scored at Wincanton yesterday in the 188 Bet Handicap Chase under a strong front running ride from Matt Griffiths. He showed great tenacity to hold of the strong challenge of I’llhavealook to win by one and a half lengths. The step up in trip helped and there should be more to come. That win took us to 22 for the season.
10.2.2017 - Unison was a thoroughly game winner at Wincanton yesterday of the Bathwick Tyres Handicap Hurdle where he responded to pressure to win by a length and a quarter. It was hard work on the ground, which was gluey, and a downpour of rain would have helped to loosen it up, but Matt Griffiths went in search of better ground, racing wide at times, and Unison never gave up.
He’s proved a wonderful horse for the yard winning seven since joining us a year ago, including the yard’s first ever success on the Flat at Sandown.
Our last three runners have been winners, with three seconds before that so it’s been a fruitful time of late.
This week we are looking forward to attending the Cheltenham Festival where we are being treated to lunch as runners up in the EquiTrek Frequent runner championship.
